2009 Tech Trekkers Each Win Ribbons at Annual Science Fair

It's always fun to see the projects submitted by our most recent Tech Trekkers who are now older, wiser eighth-graders participating in the Cunha Intermediate School Science Fair. The Science Fair is an important part of the eighth-grade science curriculum and a wonderful community tradition. Melody Shaff did an interesting behavioral study of "The Stroop Effect" and received a second place ribbon for testing reaction times of subjects asked to read color names printed in different colors (i.e., "red" printed in blue ink).

Lexie Garrity also won a second place ribbon for her study "Is Organic Really Organic?," testing asparagus for chemical residues. Chloe Simmons experimented with the growth hormone GA3 (Gibberllic Acid) on radish plants and received a third place ribbon in the life science category.
Dalia Juarez also worked with plants in her "Grow, Grow, Grow" project that tested the effect of fertilizer on seedlings, and was given an honorable mention.
Carmen Contreras used her passion for dance as a springboard to study how dance affects the arch of the foot. Her "What's Your Arch?" project received an honorable mention. If you would like to make a tax-deductible contribution to Tech Trek 2010, checks are payable to AAUW-CA, Special Projects Fund (SPF), and can be sent to me at any time. Please note if your donation is also a memorial gift to honor Faith Paul.
