Book Group (Evening) - This group meets once a month in a member's home to discuss a book that has been read and chosen by the group. The books vary in style and topic, and several months worth of books are chosen ahead of time (for those fast readers). Click here for a list of books for for the current year. English Language Tutoring Group - The English Language Tutoring Group provides tutoring to the Half Moon Bay students in the English Language Learners program. Activities include working one-on-one with students learning English, assisting students not yet proficient in English in the classroom, and other educational activities. Each year new students to the ELL programs at the high school are given an English/Spanish dictionary by the group on behalf of the branch. Gourmet Dinners - Gourmet Group meets every other month to share a designated theme dinner. Each participant member creates one dish from the usually elaborate menu. Members have recently enjoyed Mexican, Williamsburg and Greek dinners. Many levels of culinary talents are represented in this group -- but we all enjoy a passion for eating fine cuisine!! Great Books Group (Afternoon) - The Great Books Group meets in the afternoon to discuss books which have stood the test of time and have contributed in some major way to the growth and development of the novel. The group is reading "The Sum of the Days of Our Lives," by Isabel Allende. Great Decisions - The Great Decisions group meets weekly to discuss topics of world concern as described in the Great Decisions book ( published each year in January by the Foreign Policy Association ( The 2010 edition is available now. ) The 2010 edition features articles on Special envoys, Kenya and R2P, Global crime, U.S.-China security relations, Global financial crisis, Russia and its neighbors, Persian Gulf, and Peace building and conflict resolution.Contact Tish Williams at or call 726-0416. Janus Lunch Group - The JANUS group meets once a month for lunch, either a potluck in a member's home or a meal in a local restaurant. This group originated when several senior members could no longer get out for regular evening AAUW meetings. They took the name of the god Janus, who looks forward and backward at life, for their own. All members are welcome. Play Reading - Members read and discuss a play plus enjoy refreshments on the first Friday of the month at members' homes. Some plays read this past year include Neil Simon's "Proposals," "Don't Dress For Dinner" by Marc Camoletti, and Noel Coward's "Nude With Violin." Guests are welcome, especially men, whose voices lend a different tone to the readings. In the winter some meetings may be on Sundays and include a potluck meal. The most recent meeting was October 11 an for a reading of "Hay Fever" by Noel Coward. The instructor and AAUW member iis Christina Bechtold. Classes are free for AAUW members. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a blanket or mat and a towel. Classes will be on the fist Thursday of the month. OUr next class will be Dec 3. Come and find wout what Feldenkrais is all about.
